PIT Passenger Traffic Report For April 2013

PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT FOR APRIL 2013

  • Flights up 2.4 percent

(PITTSBURGH, PA June 12, 2013) – Once again more flights were available for Pittsburgh International Airport travelers in April 2013 compared to April 2012. There were 11,684 total operations in April 2013 versus 11,405 in April 2012, an increase of 2.4 percent. Total operations include landings and takeoffs. A total of three airlines reported increases in traffic according to the April 2013 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

AirTran had the highest percentage-based increase. The airline reported an increase of 19.3 percent passengers (78,757 passengers in April 2013/66,000 passengers in April 2012; 19.3 percent). The other two airlines to report increases in traffic were American (49,210/47,827; 2.9 percent) and Air Canada (3,437/3,293; 4.4 percent).

New flights added include Southwest’s daily service to Houston Hobby, JetBlue’s increased to four daily flights to Boston. American Airlines is adding daily nonstop service to Los Angeles in August. Southwest is adding Nashville this fall.

Airlines which recorded decreases in traffic for the month include: US Airways (171,814/176,057; 2.4 percent); Delta, (115,186/123,722; 6.9 percent); Southwest (108,501/118,070; 8.1 percent), United (108,327/112,396; 3.6 percent), and JetBlue (14,302/24,922; 42.6 percent). Overall traffic is down 3.4 percent for the month (649,732/672,287; 3.4 percent).

Year-to-date scheduled totals show scheduled traffic down 2.3 percent (2,420,139/2,476,128; 2.3 percent). United (398,595/382,186; 4.3 percent); AirTran (297,291/256,303; 16.0 percent); American (188,845/183,975; 2.6 percent), and Air Canada (12,322/12,080; 2.0 percent) all report increases in traffic through April 2013.

US Airways (639,688/681,447; 6.1 percent); Southwest (410,701/444,239; 7.5 percent); Delta (412,998/430,443; 4.1 percent; JetBlue (58,343/83,748; 30.3 percent) have reported decreases in traffic for the year.
