PITTSBURGH, PA (November 21, 2011)—The Allegheny County Airport Authority wants to make holiday travel easier for passengers flying through Pittsburgh International Airport by offering air travel tips.

More and more people are using mobile tech¬nology to access information instantly. To offer even better customer service to smart phone users, Pittsburgh International Airport has improved its mobile website, which pro¬vides visitors with instant access to real-time flight status and airport information.

PIT’s mobile site,, offers travelers and those picking them up from the airport with instant access to day-of-travel information – including real-time flight tracking, parking options and dining and shop¬ping information – anytime and anywhere. The mobile website provides accurate flight times via FlightView, a feature that has attracted positive customer feedback and is making it very popular.

The Airport Authority also reminds passengers to check with the Transportation Security Administration for packing tips and to review the prohibited items lists. New this year, children under 12 traveling with families no longer have to take off their shoes at the screening checkpoint. Also, the TSA is offering a smart phone application for TSA information and wait times that can be downloaded from

Additionally, an Express Lane at the main checkpoint will improve your time as long as you only have one carry-on item. The Airport Authority reports that there are two security checkpoints at Pittsburgh International Airport. The main checkpoint -- on the Transit Level of the Landside Terminal – is open 24 hours, while the alternate checkpoint – located just outside of the Ticketing Level of the Landside Terminal – is open from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"Planning ahead with your travel arrangements, such as packing correctly and being prepared for airport security will make holiday travel simple and enjoyable," explained Bradley D. Penrod, Executive Director, Allegheny County Airport Authority.
