PEOPLExpress Launches Inaugural Flight From Pittsburgh International Airport

PITTSBURGH, PA (June 30, 2014) – PEOPLExpress launched its first flight from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) today with travelers headed to Newport News, Va. PEOPLExpress, the start-up airline renewing the brand of one of the first U.S. low-cost carriers, is currently offering  its flights to/from Pittsburgh International Airport and Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport with introductory rates as low as $56.

“PEOPLExpress is providing another opportunity for business and leisure travelers to save valuable time by utilizing our airport and flying nonstop to this new destination on the East Coast,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. “We look forward to a successful relationship with another carrier that recognizes the benefits of Pittsburgh International Airport, and the services and opportunities available in the region.”

"We're delighted to provide Pittsburgh with a more affordable option to the beach and other historic destinations in Virginia. We see a lot of potential from Pittsburgh to additional markets in the future," said Jeff Erickson, CEO of PEOPLExpress.

“The Airport Authority has been working with PEOPLExpress for a period of time and is pleased to have been an important partner in the start up of this new venture. We work diligently to attract new airlines, destinations and more flights to benefit the region’s air travelers and to attract more visitors and business to Allegheny County and beyond,” said David Minnotte, Chairman, Allegheny County Airport Authority.

When you fly into Newport News, you are only a short distance from these great Virginia destinations: Williamsburg, Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Richmond.

PEOPLExpress, which will operate from Gate C-53 at PIT, has developed a low-cost, a la carte service model that enables customers to create a customized travel product reflecting their individual wishes and budgets. Customers can choose to fly at an ultra-low price with friendly and attentive service but minimal frills, or they can opt to purchase extras to make their trip more enjoyable, such as priority boarding, pre-assigned seating or an upgrade to a Living Large seat.

In addition to Pittsburgh, PEOPLExpress will also fly from Newport News to Boston and Newark, N.J. The schedule includes four additional destinations: West Palm Beach, Fla. (July 15), Atlanta (Aug. 1), St. Petersburg, Fla., and New Orleans. To book travel or to learn more about the airline, visit
