PIT - Airport Development : Construction Update

Baggage Claim Entrances Improvements
A construction project is underway to improve the entrances to baggage claim at Pittsburgh International Airport. This project will result in some baggage level entrances on both the public and commercial curbs to be temporarily blocked and closed. Directional signs to the opened entrances will be easy to see and follow by drivers and pedestrians. Additionally, the project will restrict portions of the stairwells in the Landside Terminal. Appropriate directional signage will be posted on the stairwells. These temporary closures will impact the curbs through the end of 2011.
The Allegheny County Airport Authority is improving the access and appearance of the baggage level entrances by installing bollards outside of the doors where the concrete jersey barriers are now.
“The bollards will be a significant method of providing protection to the building as well as improve the quality, of what is to arriving passengers, the front door to Pittsburgh International Airport and our region,” said Glenn R. Mahone, Chairman, Allegheny County Airport Authority.
