ACAA Reduces Airlines Rates for 2009

ALLEGHENY COUNTY AIRPORT AUTHORITY REDUCES AIRLINES’ RATES FOR 2009

PITTSBURGH, PA (November 25, 2008) – The Allegheny County Airport Authority has decreased its 2009 airline costs by $3.4 million and is able to pass the savings onto the airlines in reduced lease and landing rates. Airline costs were reduced from $68.2 million to $64.8 million. The revised 2009 rate is actually $600,000 lower than the airline costs recorded in 2007, $65.4 million.

These new rates will go into effect in January 2009 and are a reduction of 4.5 to 5.5 percent on lease and landing rates. In proposing the 2009 budget, the Airport Authority reviewed the information with airline representatives who asked if the Authority could take a closer look at the budget to help reduce fees to the airlines.

“The measures demonstrate the Airport Authority’s strong interest in keeping Pittsburgh International Airport competitive and marketable for airlines. We are very aware of the impact fuel costs and other economic factors have on their operations. Reducing our fees directly impacts the airlines’ cost and can contribute to improving air service in Pittsburgh,” said Glenn R. Mahone, Chairman, Allegheny County Airport Authority.

The Airport Authority operates Pittsburgh International Airport and Allegheny County Airport as self-sustaining airports as required by FAA regulations and without any local tax dollars.
