Southwest Airlines Announces New Route: Pittsburgh International Airport - Houston Hobby Airport

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES ANNOUNCES NEW ROUTE: PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – HOUSTON HOBBY AIRPORT

PITTSBURGH, PA (October 22, 2012) – Beginning today, travelers can book new nonstop flights from Pittsburgh International Airport to William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas, on Southwest Airlines. Flights will depart daily beginning April 14, 2013. Flights can be booked at southwest.com.

“We are very pleased that Southwest has added a new destination. The Houston, Texas market is vital for our business and leisure travelers and increasing the choices teamed with Southwest’s competitive fares will be a great benefit to our region,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

“The Airport Authority is thrilled to be able to share in the announcement because this is the first time nonstop daily Pittsburgh flights to Houston Hobby Airport have ever been offered! Pittsburgh is pleased to be a part of Southwest’s expansion program in Houston,” said David Minnotte, Chairman, Allegheny County Airport Authority.

“With every schedule extension, we look for ways to optimize the performance of our routes. We’re excited to offer the new nonstop service between Pittsburgh and Houston which will provide our customers convenient connecting service to/from the east, west and gulf coasts. Customers will also experience our newly retrofitted 700-series aircraft with the Evolve interior on these routes,” stated Michelle Agnew, Southwest Airlines spokesperson.

Southwest Airlines is building a $100 million international facility at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and will begin operating flights to Mexico, the Caribbean and other Latin American destinations in 2015.

The PIT-HOU schedule beginning April 14, 2013 will include one flight daily. Monday through Friday, it will depart PIT at 11:50 am, arriving HOU at 2:00. Saturdays it will depart PIT at 9:15 am and on Sunday depart PIT at 12 noon. Returning from HOU to PIT: Sunday through Friday, the flight will depart HOU at 1:35 pm and arrive at PIT 5:35 pm. Saturday, it departs HOU at 10:35 am and arrives at PIT 2:29 pm.

Southwest recently announced that it would also offer seasonal flights to West Palm Beach, Florida (PBI) beginning February 14, 2013. The non-stop West Palm Beach flight departs PIT daily at 6:55 am and arrives at PBI at 9:30 am. The return flight departs PBI at 12:30 pm and returns to PIT at 3:00 pm. Saturday’s return trip arrives at 2 pm.

Southwest and AirTran Airways currently operate 28 combined daily flights from Pittsburgh to Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago Midway, Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa.
