PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT VOLUNTEER AMBASSADORS CELEBRATE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY
PITTSBURGH, PA (October 10, 2006) – The Allegheny County Airport Authority honored 71 Pittsburgh International Airport Volunteer Ambassadors today with a celebration commemorating the Fifth Anniversary of the program. Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato and Airport Authority Board Member Mary Pat Soltis conducted the recognition ceremony.
“Congratulations to the Ambassadors and the program’s five years of outstanding work,” said Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato. “The Ambassadors welcome visitors to our region and undoubtedly make an incredibly positive impression. What visitors are really being introduced to is the spirit of Allegheny County and the southwestern PA region: Warmth, friendliness, outgoing and caring.”
“In just one year, the Ambassador Escort Program has had such great success,” said Mary Pat Soltis of the Allegheny County Airport Authority Board. “As changes to the airline industry have come about, the Ambassadors have met new these challenges, expanded this wonderful program and have helped so many people.”
“We are delighted to have this opportunity to thank this special group of volunteers, who donate their time to help individuals each day at Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Kent G. George, Executive Director of the Allegheny County Airport Authority. “Ambassadors have assisted passengers on some of the busiest days at the airport and make such a positive impact on the total airport experience.”
Ambassadors are volunteers from the community who donate their time to provide courteous and friendly assistance and provide a warm welcome to visitors. The Ambassador program began on August 8, 2001, and today 21 of the 71 Ambassadors are “original” Ambassadors, who served the first day the program was launched.
The following Ambassadors were honored for five years of service:
Rodney Akers, Eleanor Buran, Paul Buran, Mimi deBrucky, Marilyn DeMasso, Pat Diamond, Camie Hewlett, John Kolano, Martha Lanken. Edna Lloyd, Mike Musulin, Bernie Mrusek, Glenn Oberdick, James Phillips, Ed Potocar, Anita Potocar, Denise Quach. Susan Reed, Karen Sanders, John Williams and Vi Young.
Additionally, the Volunteer Ambassadors are celebrating the First Anniversary of the Ambassador Escort Program, which is a service designed for people who may be flying for the first time, an international visitor who needs a hand navigating the airport, or it is for the adult child of an elderly parent, who is unable to escort the parent through the airport themselves. To schedule an ambassador escort at Pittsburgh International Airport, please call 412-472-5690. Wheelchair escorts for passengers need to be scheduled through the airline.
