PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AUGUST 2007 PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT

• Ten of 12 Airlines report increased traffic in August 2007
• Eight airlines report increases of more than 20 percent
  • AirTran: 54.2 % increase
  • JetBlue: 39.7 % increase
• US Airways dips below 40 percent market share

PITTSBURGH, PA (September 14, 2007) – Ten of 12 airlines at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) reported increases in traffic in August 2007 compared to August 2006. Eight of those airlines reported increases of more than 20 percent. Despite the gains made by these carriers, however, overall traffic at the airport decreased by 1.9 percent in August 2007 compared to August 2006.

A total of 880,272 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport in August 2007, which is a 1.9 percent decrease compared to August 2006 which had 897,663 scheduled passengers (880,272/897,663; 1.9 percent).

August 2007, however, was highlighted by 10 airlines that reported significant growth. AirTran Airways traffic increased by 54.2 percent for the month with an increase of close to 15,000 passengers (42,121/27,320; 54.2 percent) and JetBlue grew by more than 8,500 passengers (30,083/21,539; 39.7 percent).

Among the major carriers Delta grew by more than 20,000 passengers (86,914/66,521; 30.7 percent), Southwest grew by more than 30,000 (137,110/106,686; 28.5 percent), and United grew by more than 12,000 passengers (71,883/59,698; 20.4 percent). Continental had more than 6,000 more passengers (46,203/39,853; 15.9 percent) and American gained more than 5,000 passengers (42,930/37,463; 14.6 percent).

Among other carriers, USA3000 reported an increase of near 3,000 passengers (15,687/12,778; 22.8 percent), Midwest had 2,000 more passengers (11,081/8,990; 23.3 percent) and Air Canada reported an increase of just more than 1,000 passengers (4,465/3,436; 29.9 percent).

Only two airlines – US Airways and Northwest – reported decreases for the month. US Airways traffic dropped more than 120,000 passengers (343,065/464,292; 26.1 percent decrease). For the month of August 2007, US Airways accounted for a total of 38.97 percent of the passengers. Although it is the most of any airline, it is the first time in the 15-year history of Pittsburgh International Airport that the airline has accounted for less than 40 percent of the airport’s traffic.

Northwest had almost 4,000 fewer passengers in August (45,366/49,087; 7.6 percent decrease).
Year-to-date scheduled passenger figures show traffic 0.6 percent ahead of last year’s pace (6,756,845/6,717,371; 0.6 percent increase).

July 2007 Passenger Traffic Report:

Every airline, with the exception of US Airways, reported gains in July 2007, however traffic was still down 1.3 percent as 919,301 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport compared to 931,263 in July 2006. Much of the decrease in traffic may be attributed to large numbers of passengers in Pittsburgh in July 2006 for the Major League All-Star game.

The top gainers in July 2007 were Air Tran (42,308/30,876; 37 percent increase), Midwest Connect (12,690/9,438; 34.5 percent) JetBlue (29,243/23,342; 25.3), Delta (84,580/67,964; 24.4 percent); Southwest (139,134/115,470, 20.5 percent), United (71,981/61,086; 17.8 percent), American (44,480/38,417; 15.8 percent) and Continental (44,424/40,083; 10.8 percent).

The other airlines that reported increases for the month were: Air Canada (4,021/3,739; 7.5 percent), Northwest (45,963/44,404; 3.5 percent), and USA3000 (16,822/16,437; 2.3 percent).
US Airways reported a 20.8 decrease in traffic as the airline enplaned and deplaned 380,018 passengers in July 2007 compared to 480,007 in July 2006.
