PIT Passenger Traffic Report For September 2011

PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER 2011

  • YEAR-TO-DATE TRAFFIC UP 3.1 PERCENT

PITTSBURGH (November 10, 2011) – Scheduled passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) year-to-date is up 3.1 percent (6,242,710/6,053,231), according to the Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. Seven airlines reported an increase in scheduled passengers in September 2011 compared to September 2010 as a total of 674,959 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport for the month, a 0.4 percent decrease (674,959 in September 2011/677,898 in September 2010; 0.4 percent decrease).

Delta’s traffic increased by 10.2 percent (125,860/114,191; 10.2 percent) which, for the third consecutive month made the Atlanta-based airline the second busiest at Pittsburgh International Airport, just behind US Airways and ahead of Southwest. Delta, however, was one of three airlines that showed increases of more than 11,000 total passengers for the month.

Continental’s traffic increased 25.9 percent (54,345/43,152; 25.9 percent) while American showed a 32.4 percent gain (53,948/40,755; 32.4 percent). Therefore, in terms of total passengers American had an increase of 13,193, while Delta increased 11,669 and Continental had 11,220 more passengers in September 2011 compared to September 2010.

Frontier (6,129/5,401; 13.5 percent), Myrtle Beach Direct Air (5,117/4,208; 21.6 percent), Air Canada (4,902/3,914; 25.2 percent), and USA 3000 (4,761/3,897; 22.2 percent) also reported gains in passenger traffic.

Airlines which reported decreases in traffic were: US Airways (176,881/190,429; 7.1 percent), Southwest (119,108/119,697; 0.5 percent), United (55,043/71,185; 22.7 percent), AirTran (46,979/52,535; 10.6 percent); JetBlue (21,087/22,906; 7.9 percent), and Skywest (799/5,628; 85.8 percent). For the month, traffic decreased 0.4 percent in September 2011 compared to September 2010.
