PIT Passenger Traffic Report For October 2010


  • Traffic up for seventh consecutive month
  • Nine airlines report gain in traffic

PITTSBURGH, PA (December 8, 2010) – Nine airlines reported increases in traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport ( in October 2010 as more than 753,737 scheduled passengers traveled through the airport according to the October 2010 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report. Passenger traffic is up 6.4 percent for October 2010 compared to October 2009 (753,737 in October 2010/708,200 in October 2009; 6.4 percent) and is up 1.1 percent year-to-date compared to 2009 (6,806,968/6,730,956; 1.1 percent).

It is the seventh consecutive month commercial scheduled traffic has increased at the airport. It is the eighth consecutive month overall traffic has shown an increase (overall traffic includes chartered air service).

Among the nine airlines which reported increases in traffic for the month was U.S Airways, which reported a 7.2 percent increase in traffic (209,756/195,646; 7.2 percent). The increase equates to a gain of more than 14,000 passengers, which is the largest total passenger increase for an airline in October.

Other airlines that reported higher passenger traffic were: Southwest (135,825/133,111; 2.0 percent), United (79,212/77,748; 1.9 percent), AirTran (62,153/53,350; 16.5 percent); Continental (49,580/47,009; 5.5 percent); American (44,396/35,698; 24.4 percent); JetBlue (25,161; 16,117; 56.1 percent); Air Canada (4,750/3,690; 28.7 percent); Myrtle Beach Direct Air (3,247/2,685; 20.9 percent).

“Passengers are taking advantage of the choices of airlines and the lower fares at Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Bradley D. Penrod, Executive Director and CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

Those airlines that reported decreases in passenger traffic for October 2010 compared to October 2009 include: Delta (121,214/127,985; 5.3 percent decrease), USA 3000 (6,009/7,452; 19.4 percent), and Frontier/Midwest (5,755/7,709; 25.3 percent). SkyWest, which began operations in December 2009, reported 6,679 passengers in October 2010.
