PIT Passenger Traffic Report For January 2012

PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT FOR JANUARY 2012

PITTSBURGH, PA (March 8, 2012) – Four airlines reported an increase in passengers at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) in January 2012 compared to January 2011 according to the January 2012 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority.

A total of 549,732 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport in January 2012, a 7.3 percent decrease compared to January 2011 (549,732 in January 2012/592,810 in January 2011; 7.3 percent decrease). The major contributing factor to the difference in passengers is attributed to Steelers football. Many playoff games were hosted in Pittsburgh in 2011, attracting tourism.

Airlines which showed increases in traffic were Delta (92,775/90,870; 2.1 percent), American (42,943/39,257; 9.4 percent), Continental (39,321/37,204; 5.7 percent), and Direct Air (755/268; 181.7percent).

Airlines which reported decreases were US Airways (154,813/159,872; 3.2 percent); Southwest (111,374/116,172; 4.1 percent); AirTran (48,847/59,820; 18.3 percent); United (38,299/58,049; 34.0 percent); JetBlue (17,276/19,232; 10.2 percent); Air Canada (2,825/3,103; 9.0 percent); Frontier (504/3,279; 84.6 percent), USA 3000 (0/1,339; 100 percent); Skywest (0/4,345; 100 percent).

“In the coming months, we will see Frontier resume service in Pittsburgh with flights to Milwaukee and we are anticipating a very successful return of nonstop Pittsburgh to Paris on Delta Air Lines on March 24,” said Bradley D. Penrod, Executive Director/CEO, Allegheny County Airport Authority.
