PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT FOR AUGUST 2011

  • Scheduled Passenger traffic up 2.2 percent

PITTSBURGH (October 14, 2011) – Scheduled passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) increased 2.2 percent in August 2011 compared to August 2010, according to the Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. It is 16th time monthly passenger traffic has increased over the past 17th months. It is the most consistent growth IN traffic since September 2001.

Seven airlines reported an increase in scheduled passengers in August 2011 compared to August 2010 as a total of 767,792 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport for the month, a 2.2 percent increase (767,792 in August 2011/751,393 in August 2010; 2.2 percent increase).

Delta’s traffic increased by 10.6 percent (147,282/133,204; 10.6 percent) which, for the second consecutive month made the Atlanta-based airline the second busiest at Pittsburgh International Airport, just behind US Airways and ahead of Southwest.

Southwest (134,965/134,246; 0.5 percent) also reported an increase in passengers as did American (60,630/43,084; 40.7 percent); Continental (51,400/45,436; 13.1 percent); Myrtle Beach Direct Air (7,544/6,625; 13.9 percent); Air Canada (4,451/4,047; 10.0 percent) and USA 3000 (2,591/779; 232.6 percent).

Airlines which reported decreases in traffic were: US Airways (181,497/186,671; 2.8 percent); United (77,698/84,151; 7.7 percent); AirTran (67,324/72,041; 6.5 percent); JetBlue (22,396/26,061; 14.1 percent); Frontier (5,118/7,460; 31.4 percent); and SkyWest (4,894/7,588; 35.5 percent).

Year-to-date scheduled passenger totals show traffic is up 3.6 percent (5,567,751/5,375,333; 3.6 percent).
