PIT Passenger Traffic Report For 2012

PITTSBURGH, PA (February 1, 2013) – Four airlines at Pittsburgh International Airport ( realized year over year (YOY) increases in scheduled passenger traffic for 2012 according to the December 2012 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, compiled by the Allegheny County Airport Authority. Delta, United, American, and JetBlue reported YOY increases in traffic, while four airlines – US Airways, Delta, Southwest, and United, each reported more than one million passengers each.

A total of 8,011,581 scheduled passengers traveled at the airport for the year compared to 8,268,440 passengers in 2011, which is a 3.1 percent decrease (8,011,581/8,268,440; 3.1 percent). The YOY drop in traffic is reflective of the current state of the aviation industry and is the first since 2009 at Pittsburgh International Airport. Similar sized airports in Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Kansas City and Milwaukee have seen similar or larger decreases as airlines merge and reduce capacity.

In 2013, new flights are arriving at Pittsburgh International Airport. Southwest will launch seasonal daily service to West Palm Beach, FL, on February 14 and will begin daily service to Houston starting April 14. Delta will begin seasonal Saturday nonstop flights to Orlando beginning Feb. 16 and JetBlue will be adding one additional daily flight to Boston on May 1. Delta’s nonstop flight to Paris will resume five days/week on May 11.

For the month, December 2012, scheduled passenger traffic showed a 1.2 percent decrease compared to December 2011 (614,940/622,461; 1.2 percent), with five airlines reporting increased passenger figures.
