PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT FOR MAY 2008

• Combined traffic for 12 airlines up 8.6 percent for month/13.6 percent for year
• Seven airlines report growth of more than 14 percent for May 2008

PITTSBURGH, PA – Combined traffic for 12 of the 13 airlines serving Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) increased by 8.6 percent in May 2008 compared to May 2007, according to the May 2008 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, prepared for the Allegheny County Airport Authority. Year-to-date figures show those same airlines have reported a 13.6 percent increase in traffic through May 2008 compared to May 2007.

The 12 airlines – AirTran, American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, United, Southwest, Midwest, Myrtle Beach Direct Air, JetBlue, Air Canada, and USA3000 – had a total of 533,477 passengers at Pittsburgh International Airport in May 2008 compared 491,041 passengers in May 2007, an 8.6 percent increase (533,477/491,041; 8.6 percent). Through the first five months of the year the 12 airlines have enplaned and deplaned a total of 2,363,730 passengers compared to 2,080,478 passengers in May 2007, which is a 13.6 percent increase (2,363,720/2,080,478; 13.6 percent).

Nine airlines showed an increase in passenger traffic in May 2008 compared to May 2007, led by Southwest Airlines, Pittsburgh International Airport’s second-largest carrier. Southwest had a 9.9 increase (138,182/125,778; 9.9 percent) and was followed by United (73,711/62,556; 17.8 percent), Delta (88,983/77,917; 14.2 percent); Continental (52,703/44,303; 19.0 percent), Northwest (50,942/49,318; 3.3 percent), AirTran (40,512/34,671; 16.8 percent), USA3000 (17,339/14,272; 21.5 percent); Air Canada (4,454/3,747; 18.9 percent) and Myrtle Beach Direct Air (2,067/1,653; 25.0 percent).

A total of 784,927 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport in May 2008, a 13.3 percent decrease compared to May 2007 (784,927 in May 2008/905,392 in May 2007) as those gains were not enough to offset the losses in traffic posted by US Airways (251,450/414,351; 39.3 percent); American (38,078/42,600; 10.6 percent), JetBlue (18,794/25,389; 26.0 percent), and Midwest (7,712/8.837; 12.7 percent).

Year-to-date figures show traffic behind the pace of 2007. Through the first five months of 2008, traffic is 10.9 percent lower than the same time period in 2007 (3,571,897/4,010,893; 10.9 percent).
