PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MAY/APRIL 2009 SCHEDULED AIRLINE TRAFFIC REPORT

• AirTran, American and Myrtle Beach Direct Air report increase in traffic
• United's service to LAX and SFO to begin Aug. 18

PITTSBURGH, PA (June 12, 2009) – Three airlines reported increases in passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) in May 2009 compared to Mary 2008 according to the May 2009 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA).

Additionally, the ACAA announced that two United Airlines new nonstop flights from Pittsburgh International Airport to Los Angeles and San Francisco on United Airlines will now begin August 18, 2009. The new start date provides a seamless transition from US Airways' previous service to United's new offering. The United service means that Pittsburgh International Airport is one of 15 airports across the country which has service to five of United's hubs in Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. This creates many opportunities for convenient domestic and global connections.”

A total of 698,422 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport in May 2009, an 11.0 percent decrease compared to May 2008 (698,422 in May 2009/784,927 in May 2008; 11.0 percent decrease).

Two airlines reported increases in traffic led by American Airlines, which reported a 9.9 percent increase in passengers (41,835/38,078; 9.9 percent). AirTran Airways (43,582/40,512; 7.6 percent) and Myrtle Beach Direct Air (2,298/2,067; 11.2 percent) also showed increases in traffic.

US Airways, which reported a 16.3 percent decrease (210,529/251,450; 16.3 percent) had the largest decline in passengers. Southwest (135,550/138,182; 1.9 percent), Delta (75,224/88,983; 15.5 percent), United (64,509/73,711; 12.5 percent), Continental (46,885/52,703; 11.0 percent), Northwest (43,383/50,942; 14.8 percent), JetBlue (18,548/18,794; 1.3percent), USA 3000 (7,097/17,339; 59.1percent), Midwest (6,023/7,712; 21.9 percent), and Air Canada (2,959/4,454; 33.6 percent) also reported decreases for the month.

Year-to-date figures show traffic behind the pace of 2008. Through the first five months of 2009, traffic is 10.9 percent lower than the same time period in 2008 (3,181,003/3,571,897; 10.9 percent).

"Sometimes it is not easy to see all the great things that are happening at Pittsburgh International Airport when you just look at the numbers," said Bradley D. Penrod, Executive Director and CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority. "Delta Airlines has just launched its flight to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, United Airlines has announced service to San Francisco and Los Angeles, and American Airlines has resumed mainline service with MD80's from Pittsburgh to Dallas this week.

Three airlines reported increases in passenger traffic in April 2009 compared to April 2008 and a total of 665,308 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport in April 2009, an 8.4 percent decrease compared to April 2008 (665,308 in April 2009/726,634 in April 2008; 8.4 percent decrease).

Three airlines reported increases in traffic led by AirTran, which reported a 29.8 percent increase in passengers (62,234/47,937; 29.8 percent). Southwest (127,544/122,357; 4.2 percent) and American (38,311/35,960; 6.5 percent) also showed an increase in traffic.

US Airways, which reported a 19.5 percent decrease (194,731/241,952; 19.5 percent) had the largest decline in passengers. Delta (68,624/76,969; 10.8 percent), United (59,212/65,215; 9.2 percent), Continental (43,441/43,844; 0.9 percent), Northwest (40,766/42,773; 4.7 percent), JetBlue (11,481/17,661; 35.0 percent), USA 3000 (9,918/18,408; 46.1 percent) Midwest (5,335/7,647; 30.2 percent), Air Canada (2,055/3,898; 47.3 percent) and Myrtle Beach Direct Air (1,656/2,013; 17.7 percent) also reported decreases for the month.
