Onorato and Airport Authority Officials Announce Lease Extensions with US Airways for Facilities at Pittsburgh International Airport
PITTSBURGH - Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato and Allegheny County Airport Authority Board Member Rich Stanizzo today announced five-year lease extensions with US Airways for hangars and other facilities at Pittsburgh International Airport.
``Our region`s qualified workforce and Pittsburgh International Airport`s excellent facilities are the major reasons we are announcing these lease extensions with US Airways today,`` said Onorato. ``It is an endorsement of our ability to respond to the changing needs of the airline while also ensuring maintenance jobs and other opportunities for US Airways employees in this region.``
The Airport Authority and US Airways have amended the airline`s current agreement for a five-year term from January 2006 through December 2010 with an option to extend. The agreement involves Hangars 3, 4 and 5, as well as the special services building, cargo building, mail sort facility and ground service equipment maintenance facility. The hangars will be used for line maintenance on US Airways` Boeing and Airbus aircraft and heavy maintenance on its Airbus fleet.
``This agreement is an important step in our goal to keep Pittsburgh International Airport a vital part of US Airways` ongoing business plan,`` said Stanizzo. ``It also symbolizes a renewed commitment by all parties involved to embark on an enterprising and realistic approach to dealing with the new US Airways.``
C.A. Howlett, US Airways senior vice president, public affairs, stated, ``US Airways has an extensive history in Pittsburgh, and today`s long-term lease agreement reaffirms our commitment to providing quality air service and jobs to the community. The facilities here are certainly second-to-none, but it`s the people, our employees, our passengers and the people we work with at the county and airport authority that set Pittsburgh apart. We look forward to continuing a great partnership with the county and the airport authority.``
