PITTSBURGH, PA (August 4, 2006) – The June 2006 Scheduled Airline Traffic Report for Pittsburgh International Airport indicates that airlines other than US Airways are showing a combined increase and that passenger traffic declines continue to level off, thanks to the increase in regional passenger traffic. This report is compiled monthly by the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
Four airlines showed significant growth in June 2006 compared to June 2005, led by Southwest and Midwest. Southwest reported a 74.1 percent increase in passengers (116,825/67,104) while Midwest showed an 89.8 percent gain (9,139/4,816). Continental (40,849/27,717; 47.4 percent) and Air Canada (4,076/3,272; 24.6 percent) also reported increases in traffic.
Those gains helped offset the losses in passenger volume by US Airways (485,978/620,009; 21.6 percent), Delta (65,078/71,526; 9 percent), United (63,192/66,892; 5.5 percent), Northwest (45,464/48,605; 6.5 percent), American (38,016/39,093; 2.8 percent), AirTran (30,112/32,522; 7.4 percent) and USA3000 (15,080/21,688, 30.5 percent).
A total of 914,766 scheduled passengers traveled through the airport in June 2006 a 5.6 percent increase from May 2006 and a 10.5 percent decrease compared to June 2005 (914,766 in June 2006/ 1,022,119 in June 2005). Year-to-date scheduled airport traffic shows a 5.8 percent decrease (4,888,445/5,191,840).
