January Passenger Traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport

JANUARY PASSENGER TRAFFIC AT PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
PITTSBURGH, PA (March 9, 2006) – Airlines other than US Airways operating at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) showed a combined 16.1 percent increase in traffic in January 2006 compared to January 2005 according to the Scheduled Airline Traffic Report issued by the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
Midwest Airlines led the way for the airlines, reporting a 101.1 percent increase (5,430 passengers in January 2006/2,700 passengers in January 2005). United (52,575/44,111; 19.2 percent) and Continental (26,217/22,337; 17.4 percent) airlines also showed impressive growth.
Additionally, Southwest, which began operations at Pittsburgh International Airport in May of 2005, reported a total of 67,988 passengers.
``Midwest and Southwest are prime examples of the changes occuring of Pittsburgh International Airport,`` said Allegheny County Airport Authority Executive Director Kent G. George said. ``Southwest has been doing very well from the outset and Midwest, with their outstanding customer service, has found a niche that hopefully we will see grow even more.``
In the last two years, Pittsburgh International Airport has realized an increase to its origination and destination passenger traffic, a trend that has been influenced by airlines such as Midwest, Southwest and AirTran and the restructuring of US Airways.
Midwest`s growth at the airport has been remarkable. Comparing January 2006`s statistics to January 2004, show the airline has more than tripled its passengers (5,430 in January 2006/1,541 in January 2004).
A total of 691,909 scheduled passengers were reported at Pittsburgh International Airport in January 2006, which translates to a 7.5 percent drop in passenger traffic from the previous year (691,909/748,228).
US Airways reported a 20.2 decrease in traffic (388,583/487,018) for the month. However, included in the airline’s total are the traffic figures for America West, which showed a 68.3 increase from the previous year (13,009/7,729)
