ALLEGHENY COUNTY AIRPORT AUTHORITY OPENS COMMERCIAL DEPARTURES ROADWAY AT PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT EFFECTIVE MONDAY, JUNE 4
- First time opened since 9-11-2001
- Announcing Parking Shuttle Finder Application for Smart Phone
PITTSBURGH, PA (May 29, 2012) – Beginning Monday, June 4, 2012, passengers arriving to Pittsburgh International Airport via parking shuttles or commercial transportation such as taxi cabs and hotel shuttles, will be dropped off at the ticketing level of the landside terminal.
This drop off point is also adjacent to the entrance to the alternate security checkpoint.
“This is an important customer enhancement. Opening the commercial curb improves access for the customer and meets the needs of the commercial drivers,” said Bradley D. Penrod, Executive Director, Allegheny County Airport Authority. “Our parking lot buses are returning to the ticketing level for the first time since September 11, 2001.
You can now park for only $8 per day and take the extended parking shuttle and be dropped off right at the ticketing level of the terminal. Also, after parking at the airport, passengers can use their Smart Phone and go to FLYPITTSBURGH.mobi to find the location of the next shuttle bus.
If you have printed out your boarding pass at home and have no checked luggage, you can go straight to the alternate security area. Parking has never been easier at the airport.
The commercial departures curbs were closed after Sept. 11, 2011 due to tighter security rules. Physical changes to the airport over the years have paved the way for the commercial curbs to be reopened. The Airport Authority installed an electronic gate that is triggered through a transponder to permit buses and taxis entrance. Crosswalk safety devices including flashing lights, signage and security cameras have been installed at the alternate security checkpoint entrance for pedestrian safety.
