ALLEGHENY COUNTY AIRPORT AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES MORE NONSTOP FLORIDA AIR SERVICE AT PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
- AirTran Airways adds flights to three Florida destinations
PITTSBURGH, PA (September 5, 2008) – Heading to the warm Florida weather this fall and winter has just been made easier as AirTran Airways has announced it will add nonstop service between Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) and three Sunshine state destinations – Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers. Flights can be booked now at www.AirTran.com. 4 departures weekly (daily except Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday) each to Ft. Myers and Ft. Lauderdale
5 departures weekly (daily except Tuesday and Wednesday) to Tampa
“This is good news for leisure and business travelers at Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Bradley D. Penrod, Executive Director and CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority. “Florida has so many popular destinations and AirTran Airways is doing a great job getting passengers there. In November it will have 30 departures to Florida each week.”
“AirTran Airways’ announcement of expanded service to these top destinations in Florida is proof that there are airlines that want to be at Pittsburgh International Airport and serve the business and leisure travelers in our region,” said Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato. “The Airport Authority and County will continue working to attract new air service to Southwestern Pennsylvania and to reduce the cost to airlines at Pittsburgh International Airport.”
The newly announced flights include nonstop service to Tampa, Fort Myers and Fort Lauderdale.
Beginning in October:
Beginning in November:
From Nov. 20 – Dec. 3 – Tampa, Ft. Myers, and Ft. Lauderdale will operate daily to handle the Thanksgiving Travel schedule.
Beginning in February:
Ft. Lauderdale nonstop service is increased to two flights per day: Effective February 12.
“AirTran Airways was truly the first low cost carrier at Pittsburgh International Airport,” Penrod said. “Adding service such as this shows why they earned the trust of our travelers.”
The air service announcement continues what is a good year at Pittsburgh International Airport for AirTran. Through July the airline has seen its traffic increase almost 30 percent compared to 2007. AirTran offers five non stop departures a day from PIT to its hub in Atlanta and two to Orlando.
