ALLEGHENY COUNTY AIRPORT AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES ENHANCED WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS AT PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
PITTSBURGH, PA (September 10, 2007) – The Allegheny County Airport Authority has enhanced and expanded its complimentary wireless communications services provided at Pittsburgh International Airport.
Wi-Fi at Pittsburgh International Airport is now available in both the Landside and the Airside Terminals. The enhanced service using the latest technology is capable of accepting multiple cards including A, B, G. The bandwidth has been expanded which increases the service’s speed and reliability. As a bonus, the service opens with a splash page currently used to promote the airport’s website, www.FlyPittsburgh.com.
“Pittsburgh International Airport was the first large airport to provide free Wi-Fi for passengers and employees in the country in September 2003 and is still among one of the few which does not charge for this service. This improved wireless communications is a huge asset for people using the airport. We do this as a customer service benefit to our passengers and tenants,” stated Allegheny County Airport Authority Board Chairman Glenn R. Mahone.
Free Wi-Fi allows passengers at the airport to connect to the Internet through their laptop computers and PDAs (personal digital assistants) to access their e-mail, download files and surf the net while shopping at AIRMALL, dining at the food courts or sitting at their gates – all free of charge and without plugging in.
“Free Wi-Fi is especially beneficial to the business traveler dealing with the demands of traveling for work and to the average person who wishes to send emails, maintain a blog or just play an online game while waiting for their flight,” explained Tony Gialloreto, Senior Manager Information Technology, Allegheny County Airport Authority.
For Pittsburgh International Airport, it is another way to enhance its already glowing customer service reputation. Pittsburgh International Airport has received numerous accolades worldwide, including being ranked among the top airports by Official Airline Guide, J.D. Powers, Conde Nast Traveler Magazine, Travelocity and e-Travel.
The Allegheny County Airport Authority also has installed additional outlets and chairs in Concourse A. These areas are often used for people who wish to use Wi-Fi while also charging their computers.
The Allegheny County Airport terminal building in West Mifflin, PA, also offers free Wi-Fi for visitors and tenants.
